About Western Slope AI

Practical AI Guidance Built Around Your Business

Western Slope AI helps organizations use artificial intelligence, automation, and connected systems to improve how work gets done. We work with businesses that see the potential of AI but do not want to chase trends, replace successful systems unnecessarily, or invest in technology without a clear business reason. Our role is to understand the business problem, identify where technology can create meaningful value, and recommend a practical path forward.

Our approach is shaped by experience in business consulting, software systems, workflow improvement, automation, website technology, data management, and AI implementation. We begin with the business rather than the tool: what is slowing people down, where information gets stuck, what customers need, and what a better process would look like. Sometimes the right answer is an AI assistant or custom agent. Sometimes it is an automation, a better integration, or a simpler process change.

Western Slope AI is based in Gunnison, Colorado, and draws its identity from the Western Slope values of practicality, resourcefulness, independence, and straightforward problem-solving. We are software-agnostic and work with the systems organizations already use whenever possible. Our first priority is to extend, connect, and improve existing technology before recommending something new.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Clear Recommendations

We explain what we recommend, why we recommend it, and what implementation is likely to involve.

  • Practical Deliverables

Our assessments, audits, roadmaps, and implementation projects are designed to produce something useful—not simply another conversation about what AI might eventually do.

  • Honest Guidance

We will not recommend AI where it does not provide meaningful value. We will also identify limitations, dependencies, and risks that should be understood before moving forward.

  • Technology Independence

Our recommendations are based on your business needs and existing systems, not on a requirement to sell a particular platform.

  • Implementation Support

We can move beyond strategy and help build, integrate, test, deploy, train, and improve the solutions we recommend.

About the Founder

David McElyea, founder of Western Slope AI, outdoors with mountains behind him.

Western Slope AI was founded by David McElyea, a consultant and technology professional with experience helping organizations improve their websites, software systems, business processes, data workflows, and digital operations.

His work has often taken place at the intersection of business needs and technical implementation—understanding the operational problem, determining what technology can realistically solve it, and helping put that solution into use.

As AI became more capable and accessible, it became clear that many organizations would need more than software recommendations. They would need practical guidance from someone who understands workflows, integrations, implementation, and the realities of operating a business.

Western Slope AI was created to provide that guidance.

The company can also bring in additional technical and subject-matter specialists when an engagement requires capabilities beyond the core team. This allows each project to be built around the needs of the work rather than around a fixed agency structure.

Our Goal

Our goal is not to automate everything.

It is to help organizations identify and implement the right improvements—solutions that save time, reduce friction, improve access to information, strengthen customer service, and allow employees to focus on more valuable work.

AI may be changing the tools available to businesses.

The fundamentals remain the same: understand the problem, choose the right approach, implement it carefully, and measure whether it made the business better.

Start With a Practical Conversation

You do not need a finished AI strategy or a detailed technical plan before contacting us.

Bring us a workflow, a recurring frustration, a customer-service challenge, or an area where your team is spending too much time.

We will help you determine whether AI can create meaningful value and identify a practical place to begin.
